to the narrative is Armosyn, a Company slave, and her family, slave and free,
and their day-to-day lives.

Keet concludes that
the matter of race relations should be lifted out of party politics and that
all parties (including "non-whites") must share in talks to draft a
plan that will meet with the approval of the majority of South Africans. The
tendency to employ power politics with groups only concerned with their own
interests, must make way for "joint deliberation in the interests of the
whole". Keet's views are all the
more interesting in that he was a respected NG Church figure and had led the
team that translated the Bible into Afrikaans, and also proposed making
Afrikaans the official language of the NG Church. In later years he sharply
criticised apartheid. His long term vision has proved to be correct.
